Photos of Saint Mary's Lighthouse

In this gallery you can view my best photos of Saint Mary’s Lighthouse, situated on the tiny Saint Mary’s Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the beautiful coast of North East England. The island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is revealed at low tide. The lighthouse and cottage was built in 1898. Prior to the lighthouse was an 11th-century monastic chapel. The monks who lived here used a lantern on the tower as the first beacon warning to passing ships of the dangers posed by the jagged rocks here.
